Actress Caroline Quentin has claimed the tradition of male pantomime dames is "sexist and offensive".

' Oh no it isn't', claimed the Loose Women panel, who slammed the actress for her comments.

"It's just utter, utter nonsense," said panellist Lisa Riley . "What is she thinking of?"

Men Behaving Badly actress Caroline made the controversial comments in her Prima magazine column, arguing that the tradition is "unflattering to women" and inherently "sexist", despite having appeared in a panto herself.

"With there being fewer roles for women than men in the acting world, it strikes me as rather unfair that the Dame is still always an older bloke," the 56-year-old wrote. "Is it appropriate, in this age of inclusion, for middle-age women to be ridiculed by blokes in skirts and too much make-up, be it in panto or a TV sitcom? Is it, in fact, a form of sexism?"

Lisa, said : "Panto is a tradition we have in this country and I've been lucky to be involved with it for about 17 years.

"And it's a tradition we must keep hold of.

"I can't believe she's come out with this comment," she added.

Saira Khan also blasted the actress and said Caroline's column was "PC gone mad".

"We really are psychoanalysing this aren't we." she said.

"I think this is PC gone mad. I like to take my kids and I want them to have a laugh and a bit of a joke.

"I absolutely agree with you Lisa. It's a British tradition. Nobody thinks any more into it than what it is."
